Amanda Thomas

Assistant Professor, Department of Earth Sciences

Professor Amanda Thomas is a seismologist that studies small magnitude earthquakes. Such events occur frequently along major plate boundaries and can be used to probe the structure and rheology of deep fault zones.

Amanda uses machine learning to mine large seismic datasets for small events, to suppress noise sources that may hinder event detection, and for other seismological applications, such as improving earthquake early warning systems.
