Andrew Kern is an Evergreen Associate Professor of Biology at the UO. His research program uses computational and mathematical approaches to leverage genome sequence data for evolutionary inference. In particular his team develops Machine Learning algorithms for inferring evolutionary processes that shape patterns of genomic variation.
Most recently, the Kern Lab published methods which leverage Deep Learning approaches for identifying and characterizing the influence of natural selection in genomes.
Dr. Kern’s lab has published broadly in the fields of population genetics, evolutionary genetics, and computational biology.
